Comprehensive Vision Evaluations

Vision Evaluations

During a vision exam at VisionFirst, our skilled optometrists utilize advanced diagnostic testing and techniques to assess not only your functional visual skills and abilities, but also the overall health of your eyes. They evaluate the sharpness of your vision, test for common eye conditions such as astigmatism, myopia, hyperopia, and presbyopia, and check for signs of potential eye diseases like glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataracts. By detecting these issues early on, we can prevent further deterioration and often are able to offer a range of treatment options.

Regular vision exams are not only crucial for identifying and predicting vision dysfunction, but also play a pivotal role in providing a window into your overall health and well-being. Did you know that various systemic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and even certain cancers can manifest initial symptoms in the eyes? By conducting thorough examinations that assess structure as well as function, our optometrists can provide early detection and referral when necessary to our expansive network of healthcare professionals, preventing unnecessary suffering and even potentially saving lives.

Regular Vision Exams significantly improve your chances of maintaining healthy eyesight and optimized brain function.

Pediatric Eye Exams

The American Optometric Association recommends that all preschool children should have received at least three complete vision exams.

One at 6 months, one at 3 years, and again at 5 years or before beginning school, to ensure that their visual skills and abilities are developing on the appropriate timeline. It’s important that after starting school children receive yearly eye exams to ensure they are visually ready for the learning that takes place in the classroom. A thorough vision evaluation rules out any possible vision problems that may be part of the reason for a child’s inappropriate behavior or performance in the classroom.

Testing beyond 20/20 eyesight

There is a great deal more to vision than purely eyesight and letters on the letter chart. Our comprehensive evaluations look at essential functional visual skills and abilities including:

  • Visual acuity at near
  • Eye teaming ability (Binocular Integration)
  • Convergence
  • Stereopsis (depth perception)
  • Eye movement control (tracking)
  • Accommodation (focusing ability)
  • Visual-motor integration (eye hand coordination)
  • Peripheral vision
  • Visual intake (visual memory)
  • Visual Form Perception

Early detection is key for successful intervention

At VisionFirst, we use a thorough collection of both objective testing and subjective analysis to evaluate functional visual skills and abilities, visual processing, and eye health. A thorough vision evaluation can be conducted even without the child saying one word!

Adult Eye Exams

See Better, Feel Better! The need for the right prescription.

Have you ever received glasses or contacts, but still felt that your prescription was not right? This is because we all have a different preference of prescription strength. Seeing both clearly and comfortably also depends on how well you use your eyes and your underlying systemic health conditions. The doctors at VisionFirst assess your individual needs to ensure that you have the best vision possible.

The American Optometric Association recommends annual eye examinations for all adults.

This consistency is integral to diagnose vision problems, detect changes in the visual systems, and maintain ocular health. Regular eye care can help prevent many diseases, as well as functional problems that may occur as a result of the extensive near visual demands associated with a rigorous academic and/or professional life.

At VisionFirst, we provide holistic eye care to support the increasing demands of our evolving visual world. With such stress being place on our visual systems with extensive computer and near work, a dependence on hand held devices, and our progressing technological society, many people experience unnecessary feelings of eyestrain, headaches, or blurred vision throughout their day. The majority of visual symptoms and difficulties can be effectively treated with appropriate glasses and/or Vision Therapy.

Vision therapy is not just for kids

While many people feel that most vision disorders are either hereditary or naturally occurring, there is substantial evidence that many non-pathological (disease) vision disorders are related to how we use our eyes and the ergonomics we use while reading or on digital devices. Even though someone has 20/20 eyesight and a current eyeglass prescription, there is no guarantee that all of the critical visual skills are intact and functioning efficiently for their specific needs.

Eliminating tired eyes in the workplace improves efficiency!

Behaviors and signs that visual dysfunction may exist:

  • Developed or acquired reading disorder
  • Headaches (tension or migraine)
  • Symptoms resembling ADD or ADHD
  • Chronic muscle tension in neck or upper back
  • Motion or car sickness
  • Psychiatric conditions (such as depression or anxiety)
  • Behavior problems in an academic setting
